On Saturday May 31, San Francisco based Upper Playground opened its doors in beautiful skid row Los Angeles. The store is actually 4 stores next to each other. It contains a clothing store, a tattoo studio, the FIFTY24LA gallery, and a 4th revolving space the will showcase various fashion and art concepts.
During the premier the revolving space housed custom motorcycles from 1998 AMA 250cc Champion-turned motorcycle designer Roland Sands and fashion pieces from designer and model Tony Ward's line, Six in the Face. From August through September the site is supposed to be transformed into a promotional experience for the upcoming feature film from Overture Films called Righteous Kill starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.
The store also showcased various pieces by Mister Cartoon including some amazing low rider bikes. There was also a section that housed various photographs and clothing by Estevan Oriol.
The FIFTY24LA gallery showcased artwork by Usugrow, Sam Flores, Jeremy Fish, David Choe, Herbert Baglione, San, Retna, Saber, Alex Pardee, Ron English, Doze Green, Slick, Armsrock and David Ellis. The Slick piece with the drips was truly mind-blowing.
