I had the privilege of attending a private preview of Mear One's solo show. It was entitled Mearasma at the 01 Gallery in downtown Los Angeles. Once again, Mear soars above the rest. The colors, details and originality were mind-blowing.
Mear proves his range of talent in what I noticed to be 3 distinct categories of work.
Lose yourself in the series of imaginative and thought provoking pieces such as the amazing painting of buildings in Downtown Los Angeles.
Paintings such as the one that depicts George Bush, Dick Cheney and Usama Bin Laden.
See his messages carefully placed on each canvas. Notice the graffiti paraphernalia such as a spray can or a marker.
The attention to detail was apparent in all of Mear's pieces. Each time I looked at a painting I noticed something new. I realized that even my careful observations would miss critical details on the first try. Another thing I noticed is that all of the "street" style paintings were painted over a previously silk screened print of Kaotik for the People. It added richness to the paintings since the print under it could be seen coming through some of the pieces.
I also learned that Mear specifically creates the frames with his own two hands to match the paintings. He wants the paintings to be perfect and the frames complete the work.
Mear One is one of today's living artistic geniuses. I highly encourage you to attend the show at 01 Gallery.
