Graffiti Markers Buff Test

Have you ever seen a tag that shows through a buffed wall? Everyone wants their tags to stay up forever.

Today we will look at the most popular markers on the market to see which one is able to make it through 2 coats of paint.

We will look at the poor man's marker the Sharpie, Krink K-71, Witches Brew, Griffin Shoe Polish, a mixture of Griffin and Oink and Garvey ink.

After applying 2 coats of paint this is what happened: The Sharpie was completely gone. The Witches Brew was completely gone as well. The Witches Brew paint is fade proof in the sun, but is no match against a layer of paint. The Krink K-71 showed through the paint a little bit. The Garvey ink , the Griffin by itself and the mixture of Oink ink and Griffin survived the buff and showed through 2 layers of paint extremely well.

Axis - Welcome to My Nightmare - Outside Shots

Axis had an amazing solo show at Suru last weekend on November 15, 2008. The cool kids were allowed in the back where music was playing and the drinks were flowing. For the show, Axis painted the back of Suru.

I had to go back and take some daytime shots.

Jaw Strikes Again

These guys have taken painting to a whole new level. The characters drawn are huge. Let me emphasize huge. I have never seen graffiti on a billboard that takes up the whole thing. They have perfected a new technique of painting characters that no one can compete with. This billboard is on Pico in West Los Angeles on the other side the of the long running Augor Tastes Like Gold billboard.

There is anoter character running on Pico. This one is eating a hamburger. We featured this wall back in October as part of some other JDI RTH graff.

It is starting to get more and more throw ups painted on top of it. However, you can still see character from the street.

Cap Test - The Stencil Cap

Thin caps do not make thin enough lines for you? No worries, there is a solution for you!

We continue our cap test series with the answer to the ultra thin line, the Stencil Cap. The Stencil Cap was developed by Los Angeles graffiti artist Swank One SH. The cap fits on all spray paint brands. It is recommenced that you use a thin cap like the Universal German Outline cap to make sure that you are not spraying too much paint through the stencil cap.

You do have to remove the color doughnut from spraypaint brands like the Montana Hardcore to fit the Stencil Cap on them.

On Deck - Art On Skateboards at Tradition

Eye One curated a show at Tradition that feature art on skateboard decks. This is a special night at Tradition. Not only will the On Deck Art show be going on, Raekwon from the Wu Tang Clan will be performing a special set in conjunction with the release of Akomplice clothing's 9th season.

Mike Giant on Vimby

Brian from Vimby got in touch with me about a new video that dropped last week featuring San Francisco based Mike Giant.

The video was shot on location at White Walls Studios in San Francisco. Mike Giant talks about his life.

As a child he moved from Upstate New York to Albuquerque New Mexico. He started painting graffiti in 1989 after he graduated from high school. He also discusses how he got his name and the progression and styles that he went through as a tattoo artist, graffiti artist and illustrator.

Bloc 28 - Downtown Los Angeles Art Show

A collaboration of Disney and street artists mostly from the world of graffiti showcase their vision of Mickey Mouse.

The opening took place in Downtown Los Angeles on November 13, 2008. This was the second series that Disney commissioned. Artists included in this Bloc 28 show were: Aroe MSK Heavy Artillery from the UK, Chaz Bojorquez from Los Angeles, Ewok AWR MSK HM, Rime MSK, Suiko from Japan and Tenga from Japan.
