Don't Take Things for Granted

Saber - Los Angeles River Piece
On September 1, 2009, Saber's epic work at the Los Angeles River was buffed by the city. A few weeks earlier, I happened to be near the piece and took a picture not knowing that this will be the last time that I get to see this graffiti masterpiece.

As the year comes to an end, I like to think about the year. The Saber piece has been up for the past 12 years and many considered it to be part of Los Angeles. I thought it will be at the river forever.

Appreciate everything around you. What you take for granted today, may not be there tomorrow. Have a great new year!

BNE in Japan

BNE in Japan
The December 11 BNE solo show in New York prompted me to go back and look at my pictures from our recent trip to Japan. If you visit some of the major parts of Tokyo like Shibuya, Shinjuku or Harajuku, you will for sure see BNE stickers.
These stickers stay up for a long time. I saw the same ones when I visited Japan a few years ago as well. Here is a small sample of BNE's work in Japan.

Construction Site Graffiti - Why Buff?

Graffiti on construction site
Graffiti on construction sites make a lot of sense. The site is temporary, once the building project is complete, the graffiti will be covered up. It does not make sense to buff construction site walls. Let the graffiti stay!

I recently took the first set of pictures at a construction site in the Mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles. I did not realize that my lens focused on the fence instead of the throw ups behind it. Most of the pictures were out of focus. I went back a few days later to retake the pictures and the main wall was buffed. Only one of the throw ups remained.

Shag + Bamr own this Freeway Spot

Shag Bamr Busah
Some writers favor certain spots. Walls get buffed and they are back at it. Shag and Bamr have taken owning a spot to a whole new level. I have been documenting this highly visible wall on the 110 freeway close to downtown for over one year now. They keep coming back time after time.
There were some other graffiti writers that hit this spot but Shag and Bamr were consistently coming back. Much props!

Downtown LA Freeway Underpass

Downtown Los Angeles Freeway Underpass
Once in a while Cal Trans buffs this underpass in Downtown Los Angeles. Writers keep coming back and painting the wall. This is a great spot since it is difficulty to see during the night but during the day it is nicely visible especially during downtown traffic.
