Before the interweb, before digital cameras, before graffiti was cool, there was Can Control. Can Control was one of the first graffiti magazines. It was the first that I saw that had pictures of Los Angeles graffiti. I studied every issue of Can Control like it was a bible. Can Control did not only feature Los Angeles writers, it also had writers from all over the country and sometimes from outside the country. Can Control was the first time I saw works of New York writers like Ket, Cope and Tkid. When I visited New York in the early 1990s, I was already familiar with their work.
So, why all the talk about Can Control? The following pictures were taken by Power, the creator of Can Control. These are true gems that I do not think anybody has pictures of. I believe the Strip, Risk, Nes were painted in 1989 and the Sleez, Chaka, Hex were painted in 1990. Be sure to check out
Can Control's website where you can pick up back issues.
