By the Los Angeles river, a homeless man has created his own paradise. This summer I had the privilege of visiting Bamboo Charlie's Yard. It is enclosed yard located in Boyle Heights right next to the LA river.
Bamboo Charlie, as everyone calls him, has cleared a section of land overgrown by bamboo trees and made it his own living space and graffiti art gallery. Charlie keeps the area spotless. He has a generator for electricity which powers his electric stove and TV. Next time you feel like you are out on your luck, think about Bamboo Charlie. Instead of dwelling on being homeless, he took action and created his own world. Update: Check out Part 2
