Montana Paint LA and Art in Numbers Present:
Hit Me Up with Sergio Hernandez and Friends
Los Angeles (June 14, 2011) The art installation, "Hit Me Up," a graffiti term meaning write my name while you're out painting, will showcase new works by Sergio "SURGE" Hernandez and innovative art accompanied by hand-selected artists. Opening at the Montana Store L.A. on June 17, 2011 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the show features new works from the graffiti artist including playful characters that reflect the urban landscape and influential people he has met throughout his life.
Sergio Hernandez, born and raised in San Diego, CA, had developed graffiti talent at a young age. Hernandez drew inspiration by the hand painted advertisements throughout Tijuana, Mexico, a frequent visit growing up. His paintings originate from stories he was told as a child or those he had experienced himself throughout his lifetime. His work has been shown in several cities across the nation and maintains an international presence.
Hernandez's graffiti interested flourished as a teenager while separating himself from the religious beliefs as a Jehovah's Witness predisposed by his mother. He originated an artistic expression of his new found beliefs as a graffiti writer.
In 2004, Hernandez received his bachelor's degree in Painting and Printmaking from San Diego State University (SDSU) which he believes was a huge waste of money.
Hernandez's wife and three children inspired him to adopt a playful artistic style that kids and adults alike could appreciate. In addition to the arts, Hernandez enjoys extramural activities such as producing rap music, martial arts and as a tattoo artist.
